Samuel's Latest Medication Trial

Yet another update on our journey through the realm of epilepsy medication experimentation. The second medicine which we began on November 17, called Lamictal, had a horrible effect on Samuel, and we stopped it within 9 days of starting it. It caused his seizures to increase dramatically. Before November 17, he had about one seizure a week, but in the week and a half from November 17-26 he had 6 seizures. Yuck! We took him off the medicine on Wednesday, November 26 when he had three seizures that day. We are now watching to see if he goes back to how we was before Lamictal.

He is still on the first medication called Keppra. We will keep him on that one until we find one that does work. Keppra does seem to make his seizures a little less intense and not quite so long in duration, but it's barely noticeable in its help.

Back to square one. We are going to try a third medication once we know his seizures are back to their prior state. The doctor recommends Depakote next. We're going to be researching that one now. I haven't talked to the doctor in depth about it yet.

Otherwise, Samuel's condition is accomplishing what it is intended to do in fulfilling God's purposes in us as we grow closer to God, learn to lean on Him, and learn complete reliance and trust in Him! We rest in His promises and His peace.
